Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy)Everton are planning move to snap up Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan on a short-term loan in January, according to reports from The Express.

The USA international has enjoyed two spells at Goodison Park in the past during 2010 and 2012, and is still held in high regard by the club’s support.

With the American soccer season now in its off-season, players are free to complete temporary moves to European leagues in a bid to maintain their fitness.

Donovan is keen to do so in January, with the 2014 World Cup on the horizon.

Interest in the 31-year-old is high, but Everton are believed to be leading the queue with Roberto Martinez keen to use the relationship between the club and player to bolster his attacking options.

The MLS campaign does not start until March, meaning that Donovan would be available for nine games over the crucial early year period.

The versatile attacker is able to play as an orthodox striker or on either flank, and has plenty of experience – with 154 international caps to his name.

Donovan is unlikely to be the only player to complete a loan move to England from America’s top league, with Clint Dempsey also being linked with a return to the Premier League.

Could Landon Donovan be a wise signing for Everton?
