England legend Steven Gerrard may have experienced an abrupt end to his playing career at the weekend after his LA Galaxy side were knocked out of the MLS Play-Offs, leading to speculation the former Liverpool skipper could hang up his boots.
The 36-year-old once again failed to clinch a league title, bringing back memories of Liverpool’s slip in the 2013/14 Premier League title race, but this time Gerrard can point the finger of blame towards his team-mate, Ashley Cole.
Cole missed a penalty in Galaxy’s shoot-out defeat to Colorado Rapids on Sunday, bringing a premature end to the side’s season, and the former Chelsea ace was quick to issue his apology in social media- whilst adding to the speculation that Gerrard will end his playing career.
The pair can both be considered England legends, as they boast an incredible 221 appearances between them, and Cole should have probably taken penalty advice from Gerrard before taking his effort in the shoot-out, as Gerrard is pretty capable from a spot-kick.
Whether or not that was the last we’ll see of Gerrard in a playing role remains to be seen but Cole, only slightly younger than Gerrard at 35, could continue with his own career.
