Chelsea captain John Terry has turned down three advances from MLS sides across the pond as he eyes a stay with the Premier League leaders, The Daily Star reports.
What’s the word?
36-year-old John Terry has found opportunities at Chelsea this season limited, after signing a one-year extension last summer, but the former England captain remains determined to stay at Stamford Bridge and claim his fifth Premier League winner’s medal.
The veteran has enjoyed just nine appearances across all competitions this season, and was sent off in the FA Cup victory over Peterborough United, with it seeming unlikely that Antonio Conte will hand Terry another deal come the end of the season.
Despite the limited opportunities and the unlikelihood of a stay at Stamford Bridge this summer, Terry has spurned the advances of MLS sides and will wait until June to make a decision on his future.
Who wants him?
The Daily Star states LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls and Orlando City are the three sides keen on Terry’s signature and the England defender could earn a whopping £500k signing-on bonus if he were to move to the United States, as well as landing a deal worth £200k-a-week.
MLS sides have found competition from Chinese clubs for the ageing stars of world football, with the Asian country having a lot more to spend, but Terry and compatriot Wayne Rooney remain top of the short-list to move to America this summer.
With Terry turning 37 this year though, there is a chance that the Blues skipper could hang up his boots in the summer.
