Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has moved a step closer to becoming David Beckham’s replacement at MLS side LA Galaxy, according to the Evening Standard.
Lampard has been categorically told that he will leave Chelsea this summer when his contract expires despite the groans from the Stamford Bridge supporters.
The 34-year-old England midfielder is now free to discuss a move abroad and is able to sign a pre-contract agreement before the summer, something that LA Galaxy have already discussed with him.
Beckham gave up on the American dream after revamping the MLS in his time there but Lampard would be the high profile, global superstar that Galaxy are looking for to replace him.
Galaxy are even willing to pay the former West Ham midfielder exactly the same wages as what Beckham was earning which is around £4million a year.
Lampard will undoubtedly been flooded with offers in the next few months, but a fresh start in Los Angeles may be too hard to turn down.
